What To Do When You Notice a Change in Your Health

29th September 2023 By Fit Chameleon Leave a Comment

When health changes, it can lead to a mass panic. You don’t quite know what’s happening to your body, and you’re not sure what could be causing it. You just have a host of symptoms you’ve never had to deal with before, like getting tired easily or experiencing a racing heart rate out of nowhere.

And we totally understand – these are scary things! But a health change shouldn’t be something you try to ignore or just keep on panicking about. There’s a lot you can do to set your mind at rest again. Here are just a few tips to make use of when you’re going through something as personal and invasive as a health change.

Don’t Try to Quantify the Future

The future is uncertain for everyone, and thinking you know exactly what’s going to happen (a.k.a., jumping to the worst case scenario) will only exacerbate your panic. Think about it like this: no one knows what’s going to happen next, so there’s no point in worrying about what might happen to you. Without a medical speciality in the changes you’re noticing, it’s even hard to estimate what might be going on!

Talk to a Doctor

The most natural thing to do is speak to a medical professional. Of course, this can take some courage, and might be the last thing you want to do right now. But whatever it is you’re dealing with, a proper medical investigation is going to set your worry at ease either way. Whether you need tinnitus treatment or you need to see a heart specialist, you’ll have proper medical aid on your side, and a proper word to describe what you’re experiencing. This can make talking about it, and getting time off when you need it, a lot easier.

Focus on Stress Relief

Reducing stress in your life is a great way to roll back on a lot of worrying symptoms. Restless nights, breathlessness, being dizzy, heart palpitations, bad dreams, skin redness and feeling hot – these are all signs of stress! You might just need to roll back on your hours at work, or establish a boundary with a loved one that’s taking too much. The long term effects of putting a bit more power into your own hands can be incredibly beneficial for your health.

Tell a Loved One

Sharing a worry might worry you even further. You might experience anxiety of feeling like it’s becoming real, and seeing another person’s reaction to something you’re already scared of. But sharing a potential health issue takes the problem off of your shoulders. Someone else knows what you’re going through, and you can talk to them with real understanding about what you’re dealing with. Remember, the more you talk about a problem, the easier it becomes to handle.

Experiencing a change in your health doesn’t have to be bad. It could be worrying and require medical intervention, but always speak to a doctor before giving into irrational thoughts.

Why Walking In Nature Feels Better For Your Mental Health

A walk is often treated as interchangeable. Ten minutes is ten minutes, wherever it happens. But many people notice that walking somewhere green feels different to walking through built-up streets, retail parks or busy neighbourhoods. The distance may be the same. The pace may be similar. Yet the experience often feels calmer, lighter, […]
