If you’re a morning person, getting up and ready for work and working out might come easy. You actually probably relish the fact that you can take your Monday morning motivation and put it to good use.
However, if you would much rather stay in bed then face the day, let alone exercising, you’re not alone. Some days, facing your morning run can require more than throwing on a rain jacket over your workout gear. Even some of the highest, elite professional athletes have a hard time waking up and working out.
They get it done because it’s their job, but you need to get it done for your health and fitness level. If you find your motivation levels lacking first thing in the morning, here are three tips to help you wake up, walk out the door and exercise.
Find a Motivational Workout Partner
They don’t have to be your best friend, but just having an accountability partner to tough it along with you and share a lift on the way to the gym can make all the difference to your motivation. They can be there to give you mental or even physical support, and give you someone to help, as well. This might take your mind off some of the discomforts. If you don’t like missing appointments or letting people down either, this is a perfect tip to keep yourself accountable for showing up when and where you’re supposed to in the morning.
Plan Out Your Next Day
Whether it’s following a fitness workout plan or picking out your outfit for the next day, planning the night before will make a huge difference when it comes to your morning routine.
Some people even find that since workout clothes are usually pretty comfortable, they can even get away with sleeping in them to save them a few extra, precious minutes of sleep! Plan out your schedule for the day to make sure you fit in your fitness. Look up a fitness class schedule to see if you would want to attend and sign up in advance. Pre-booking a class will make you more likely to get moving and attend it, especially if you have already paid for it. As the saying goes, failing to plan is planning to fail.
Meal Prep Just for the Morning
This doesn’t mean you have to plan an extravaganza for breakfast the night before. Just throwing a combination of some light food together can save you time in the morning. It will also give you a great reason to get up in the morning: to eat!
If you’re not used to eating breakfast, start today. We know you have heard it, but breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. Not only does it kick-start your metabolism to get moving when you wake up, but also provides you with the nutrients and minerals you need to get through the day. If you’re planning to exercise in the morning, you also need a bit of fuel. Preparing breakfast in advance might be just what you need for a little motivational push first thing.
Keep it simple. Suggestions include blending a smoothie that was already prepared the night before or warming up the avocado and egg white sandwich you put together. Having a great meal to start your day can make all the difference.
